Presentation Abstract/Description:

 

The mentoring relationship has as its core purpose the professional development of the protégé through the coaching and guidance of the mentor. A successful mentoring relationship provides positive outcomes for both the protégé and mentor through the expansion of knowledge, skill, energy and creativity. The mentor provides career advancing skills to guide the protégé in positioning and presenting themselves in a manner which results in professional development.

There are several potential outcomes for mentoring to enhance:

. Protégé performance excellence.

. Protégé self confidence.

. Organizational performance.

. Organizational communication.

. Creativity and idea exposure.

. Development of a cooperative, productive and service oriented environment.

By providing feedback in such areas as job performance, relationships, technical information and role expectations, the mentor passes on lessons learned throughout his or her career. As a result, mentors come to feel that they have had an opportunity to "make a difference" and have made a real contribution to their profession, their organization and their own life.

 

Speaker Biography

Terri Kelly is a Performance Improvement expert. With a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Communications, with an emphasis on Human Resource Management and Organizational Development, Terri has extensive experience in developing and implementing HR solutions that achieve bottom line results. Terri has developed and facilitated a global succession planning process using Profile software, designed and implemented a leadership selection process, reduced benefit costs through revamped benefit philosophies, created competency models, and streamlined data entry function solutions on an HRMS. Several multi-billion dollar companies have benefited from Terri's performance improvement coaching and assessment prowess.

Presentation Abstract:

A overview of how one of the latest project management software technologies allows the modern Project Manager to leverage their PMP knowledge, to collaborate across an organization, and to provide transparency of project schedule & budget information in a centralized database environment.

A review of a successful Automotive OEM implementation will show how the Microsoft Project EPM tool enhances the ability of the Project Manager to utilize best practice project management techniques such as forward scheduling, capacity planning with resource requirements and availability, project baseline to forecast comparisons, and recovery of sub-par schedule and budget performance. The enterprise features of Project provide simple but powerful web/intranet reports allowing this vehicle manufacturer to forecast good and bad performance on a three to six month planning horizon. Ample time is then available to develop and implement project recovery plans that reduce their project cycle time and reduce heavy overtime. In addition the project management professional and company management time is reduced enabling the management of multiple NA vehicle programs, scores of part numbers, and building hundreds of dies.

Larry W. Lacombe, PMP is an experienced project management professional with a career that spans over 25 years experience includes work in the engineering and construction, automotive, information technology, and pharmaceutical industries.  He is certified by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and served as Year 1999 President of the Great Lakes Chapter. 

 

Ted Barth- 30 years line management experience as Plant Manager of 7 plants in 5 states.  Education:  BSME- Case Institute of Technology.  Year 2000 President of Great Lakes ( Detroit ) Chapter; Founding Director of the Michigan Huron Valley ( Ann Arbor ) Chapter in 2001.  Member of Product Development Management Association (PDMA).
