Presentation Abstract:
Modern business has become irrevocably intertwined with, and dependent upon, complex information systems. However, over the last few years, many organizations have realized that the controls in place to protect these critical assets were minimal and inefficient at best, or non-existent or ineffective at worst. CEO’s have stated that their greatest concern in regards to the systems and data is that they “don’t know what we don’t know.” They did not know what they had, where it was, who was threatening it, how to defend it, or the legal and business repercussions if they failed. As a result of this situation, a variety of international organizations have been working to combine the unique technical aspects of information security with the tried and true methods of traditional program management. The result of these efforts is the challenging field known as Information Risk Management.
