Corporate Outreach Program
MISSION
The PMI Great Lakes Chapter Corporate Outreach Committee
is the liaison between PMI and the companies located in the
Chapter’s geographic area. The committee’s goal
is to ensure that PMI is aware of and responsive to the project
management needs of the companies we serve, and that the
companies are aware of the project management profession,
its benefits and accepted practices.
OVERVIEW
The committee is in place to accomplish the following:
- To understand the needs of the companies in the community
we serve and to have them tell us how PMI can fill them
- To list the companies in the community we serve
- That have PMI members
- That should have PMI members
- To increase the value and recognition placed on the practice
of Project Management in our community within Senior Management
and Key Personnel
- To have company executives expect more rigorous Project
Management practice
The Corporate Outreach Committee officially kicked-off in
November, 2001. Since then, the committee has made significant
strides in building a dialog between the PMI-GLC Chapter
and the companies in the community.
The dialog is primarily performed through two forums:
- Needs Analysis Interviews, and
- The Corporate Roundtable.
The Needs Analysis Interviews are face-to-face meetings
with the people who have responsibility for implementing
project management in their companies. The interview involves
asking the company representatives what they know about PMI
and how PMI can be more relevant to their companies. The
questionnaires also address how the companies practice project
management. These meetings typically result in action items
to provide companies more information on project management
related topics. So far, about 10 interviews have been conducted.
Please note: we are looking for more companies who would
like to participate in a Needs Analysis Interview. If you
are interested, please contact Ravi Krishnaswami, PMP,
at corporate@pmiglc.org.
The Corporate Roundtables are facilitated discussions
between project management leaders from area companies. These
Roundtables are a direct result of the feedback we obtained
from the Needs Analysis Interviews. One constant theme heard
from those implementing project management practices in their
organizations was the desire to learn about the challenges
and successes their peers in other companies are facing.
So far, eleven Roundtables have been conducted since September
2002.
