What is Academic Outreach Committee (AOC)?

The AOC is one of the outreach committees of the PMI's Great Lakes Chapter. It envisions the implementation of the Project Management Institute's Standards for curriculum development and content in all academic project management educational programs. How do I become the member of the committee?

If you are interested and want to become a member of the committee, please fill out the Chapter Volunteer Information Form and send it to our Director of Volunteer Program, Suketu Nagrecha snagrech@ford.com (313-621-4805) and you will be put in touch with the committee chair. What are the objectives of the committee?

The Academic Outreach Committee is the liaison between the PMI’s Great Lakes Chapter and local universities, colleges and other project management educational groups. Its primary objective is to assist in the implementation of the PMI's Standards for curriculum development and content within project management educational programs.

 

 

What are the activities undertaken by the committee?

Different activities being done by the committee are:

  1. Accreditation
  2. Outreach Cold Calls
  3. Job Fair
  4. PM Awareness
  5. Marketing/Branding
 

 

What are the benefits by participating in the committee?

Earn Professional Development Units (PDUs)

  • Network with the local University Academic Community
  • Network with professionals within the Project Management community
  • Increase knowledge of PMI academic and PMBOK Standards
  • Become better prepared for CAPM, PMP and CAQ certifications

How often and where do you meet?

Monthly committee meetings are scheduled at convenient places like restaurants. Some times teleconference meetings are also conducted depending upon the convenience and availability of the members.

 

 

What is the mode of communication?

Status review is done during the face to face monthly status meeting. Apart from that, meetings are held with the members of the committee when the specific activities are planned. Virtual communication is constant by way of e-mail and telephone. A new Yahoo group PMI-GLC-AOC-GRP@yahoogroups.com has been created for the committee members to be more effective and collaborate in working together as a team.
