Board Business- Letter from the President

The end of 2011 marks the end of my tenure as the President of PMIGLC and I cannot but thank each and every one of you for helping me to improve this Chapter for the better. I am honoured and humbled to have had the chance to serve you. Each and every member had a part in improving the Chapter and getting us to where we are now. Your input helped me to stay focused and address what needed to be done. Thank you.

I would like to thank the rest of the 2011 Executive Committee and Board colleagues for helping me to carry out the responsibility.

They have worked selflessly and created value for the membership. Thank you for your invaluable contributions. Also, to the volunteers that have worked with the Executive Committee and Board members on various initiatives of the chapter, thank you for your time and effort.

For those of you that haven’t visited our website or participated in any of our events in a while, I urge you to give us another try. I encourage all of you to take advantage of the courses, programs, professional development seminars, and volunteering opportunities that PMIGLC has to offer. Considering the present, the chapter still has huge potential and can improve its services to the stakeholders. The 2012 Executive Committee and Board are an experienced volunteer team; certainly our membership will be in for some pleasant surprises with the achievements that this group will bring to the chapter!

Sincerely,

Mira Kukla
2011 PMIGLC President

The November dinner meeting also included the annual review of chapter accomplishments. If you were not able to attend, that presentation is posted on the website. On November 18-20, the PMI GLC Board of Directors conducted its November board meeting and board transition meeting. Roles and responsibilities were reviewed for VPs new to the board, and additional Director roles and volunteers in several areas were reviewed and approved along with business plans and budgets for each VP area. The board also conducted the first phase of a SWOT analysis as it moves into review and update to the chapter’s strategic plan.

Outreach Programs
Community Outreach - The State of Michigan honored our request to declare November as Project Management Month via Proclamation. The project management profession is a critical component of the Michigan economy and academic community. Professional project managers are key employees for the companies involved in vehicles, electronics, buildings, information technology-- just to name a few. Many of the state’s educational institutions offer degreed and certificate training programs to meet the ever-increasing demand for professional project managers. Michigan can boast having five local geographic-based chapters of the Project Management Institute.

Corporate Outreach/Affiliates - Engineering Society of Detroit is a valued Affiliate of the chapter, and as such it offers many benefits to chapter members ranging from professional to personal services, including significant discounts. ESD is also seeking volunteers and mentors for its middle and high school programs; Future City Competition and SMArT. Learn more about ESD -- take a free tour! Next tour - December 6.
