Leaders' Corner
Board Business
GLC Elections - Nominations
for VP-Administration,
VP-Membership and VP-Finance have been received. Newly elected leaders will serve
a two-year term, 2012-2014. The election is currently underway via email ballot
to all members and ends on 11:59 PM October 14. PLEASE VOTE!
GLC Surveys
if you attend a GLC dinner meeting or other event, please be sure to respond to
the follow-up evaluation surveys. Your opinions are very important to us in planning
future events.
Volunteers - Your
PMI Project Management Chapter depends on member volunteers who give their time
and energy to bring PDU events, training, and outreach opportunities back to our
community. Volunteering is both professionally and personally rewarding and contributes
to those leadership skills so desperately needed in todays industries. If
you are interested in becoming more involved, please contact volunteer@pmiglc.net or the VP responsible for the area
in which you would like to participate.
Membership Programs
Thank you to all who attended the New Member Orientation and Chapter
Open House on August 17th. Both events had great attendance
and the presentation by Ford Motor Company representatives on using the agile approach
to revamp its warranty claims systems was very well received. Click here to view that presentation.
Outreach Programs
Community and Academic Outreach
is conducting its third PMI Skills for Life session on October
8; the group is a high school student club from West Bloomfield schools.
Corporate
Outreach conducted its third Corporate Roundtable for 2011 on September
22nd with HP as the host presenter on the topic of Project Management Organizational
Structures. A fourth Roundtable is scheduled for December with Meritor
(formerly Arvin Meritor).
Academic Outreach hosted a student table
from UofM-Dearborn College of Business at the June GLC chapter meeting; several
of those students, along with their sponsor had participated in the chapters
CAPM training session earlier in the year. Many thanks and congratulations to the
volunteer team members for all their time and effort to make these activities
successful.

The PMI Global
Congress 2011North America coming up on
22-25 October in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, USA is going to be an exciting event
for practitioners, volunteers, exhibitors, presenters, and anyone involved in projects.
The PMI 2011 North America Leadership Institute Meeting precedes the Congress and
is the largest event held by the PMI Leadership Institute annually. It is designed
to inspire and support community leaders in the advancement of their leadership
skills, and several PMI GLC chapter officers will be attending and hopefully can
leverage some best practices that will be shared.
PMI has recently

in the metro-Detroit area are represented in this distinguished group. Check and
see if your employer is one of them!

Polishing Your Virtual Presence (October 20)
Live interviews are hard enough for potential employees; the increasing trend of
employers meeting with candidates via video can be especially intimidating for those
who haven’t entered the job market in many years. Davenport University’s Interview
Stream presents a useful way to practice in this virtual environment prior to the
actual experience, and can be particularly useful for participants who are uncomfortable
seeing themselves on camera.
