Outreach Programs
Corporate Outreach - Meritor Corp., Troy, will be our corporate host for the December Corporate Roundtable; mid-level managers are invited by the chapter to these roundtables which are facilitated discussions on relevant industry and project management topics between project management leaders from local corporations.

Academic & Community Outreach – a PMI “Project Management Skills for Life” course was recently delivered to the West Bloomfield Interact Club. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. The Skills course conducted by the chapter used a real-life project that the West Bloomfield Interact Club will be conducting in 2012.

Academic – GLC is partnering with PMI in its new CAPM program for universities offering project management curricula; the program offers students in project management courses a bundled price for joining PMI, sitting for the CAPM certification test and acceptance of the course to meet the 23 contact hours of formal education requirement.

PMI Testifies on Disaster Relief Project Management

The October 20, 2011 hearing titled, “Accountability at FEMA: Is Quality Job #1?”focused on quality control and business practices at the Federal Emergency Management Agency in order to reduce errors, mitigate waste, fraud, and abuse, and ensure greater efficiency in the agency’s response and recovery activities. Counting PMs
Although there aren’t a lot of good numbers to go by, PMI estimates that there 16.5 million Project Managers in the world. Both PMI and Gantthead have relationships with a bit more than 600K each, with roughly a 13% overlap. 66.8% of PMI members are based in North America. 53.9% of Gantthead members are based in North America. So that implies that there may be 8.7M-11M Project Managers in North America. Of course, these percentages shrink every year as the industry (and everything else in the world) becomes more global.
