A Message from the PMI GLC Vice President of Finance………..

As you may surmise, the Finance area of PMI/GLC handles the day-to-day finances of the chapter as well the annual and IRS requirements. We facilitate the annual budgeting process as well as review of expenditures by the Chapter. Additionally, over the past few years, the Finance area has undertaken a project that touches on every member of PMI and every PMP in the state of Michigan. That activity is the sponsorship of the Governor's declaration of November as the Project Management Month in Michigan.

On a global level, a specific day has been selected as Project Management Day. In support of that, we have targeted the entire month of November as Project Management Month in Michigan to provide a broader window for activities in the state associated with project management. One specific area has been the presentation of project management as a career choice to high school and middle school students. The Project Management Institute Educational Foundation (PMIEF) has prepared an excellent power point presentation and brochure to introduce this to students and counselors. Last year the counselors in the Genesee Intermediate School District were the largest audience for this material. This is available to any one who would like to volunteer to take the message to schools in their district.

Remember, for those involved in maintenance of their PMP certification, such project management volunteer activity earns some of the required PDUs. It certainly furthers the position of project management in our state. Some information from last year's declaration can be found on the GLC website. For further information, contact me at vp.finance@pmiglc.net or the Outreach area at vp.outreach@pmiglc.net.
