A Message
from the PMI GLC Vice President of Outreach
..
The
Affiliates Initiative of PMIGLC
A new initiative
was started by the PMIGLC Board of Directors under the VP of Outreach
beginning in January 2007. It was to form affiliations with similar
but complementary organizations - professional, academic or community.
The initiative is to support the strategic objective of PMIGLC to
"Create and enhance non-member stakeholders relationships to
increase the number of formal relationships by 6 over 3 years".
The main intent
of forming these affiliations is to expand the opportunities for
PMIGLC members to be able to participate in activities that could
expand their knowledge in allied fields and to additionally get
involved in their voluntary activities. The participation in such
activities could be at rates that are discounted to PMIGLC members
that are similar to the affiliate's members. These relationships
also enhance the networking potential for our membership.
The affiliates
program is run out of the Office of the Vice President of Outreach
for PMIGLC. The program will manage the identification and initiation
of relationships for affiliations and subsequently identify functions
and programs of mutual interest to execute. Currently the Corporate
Outreach, Community Outreach and the Academic Outreach committees
also report to the Office of the Vice President of Outreach.
To date, there
are three organizations identified and approved by the PMIGLC Board
of Directors to establish relationship.
The three organizations
are:
1) APICS - The
Association for Operations Management
2) The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and
3) Information Technology System Management Forum (itSMF) - Great
Lakes Local Interest Group (GLLIG)
A Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with APICS and a few joint
activities have been undertaken. Currently the BOD of the itSMF
is drafting an MOU to be signed jointly. Finally, the ESD is being
approached for us to join their affiliates program that has a membership
of 5000.
All three of
the organizations identified are all professional organizations,
but representing different domains - Manufacturing (APICS), Engineering
(ESD) and Information Technology (itSMF). The desire going forward
is to identify umbrella organizations that serve the Community and
the Academic areas. Suggestions of organizations in these areas
can be emailed to vp.outreach@pmiglc.net
The identification,
selection, cementing the relationship and establishing the interaction
for joint activities with affiliates is an exciting opportunity.
We welcome, encourage, and support anybody interested from the PMIGLC
membership that wishes to get involved in this voluntary program.
