Online
Advanced Topic Seminar: Best Practices in Project Management Leadership
-
May 5 through May 9
|
Something
different is coming!!!
May 5-9 an advanced topics seminar in leadership will be offered
for 3 PDUs entirely online. It will include power points with
audio, special activities, and discussions. Again, the participants
must plan their schedules so they can access the site for
five consecutive days for 20-30 minutes per day. This may
sound like a lot of time; however, it is at your convenience
rather than at a set time. The site is available 24 hours
per day, 7 days per week.

You may have asked yourself, "Is online learning as effective
as face-to-face?" Many research studies have shown that online
learning is as, or more effective, than face-to-face learning.
In fact, there have been so many studies showing the same results
that most journal editors will no longer accept publications comparing
the two methods. The major difference between face-to-face and online
learning is that the participant may be passive in face-to-face learning,
but he/she must be an active learner in online events. This means
the participant must actively participate through exercises, reading,
and discussions in online learning for it to be effective.
As you may have noticed, the PMP review course has been offered online
for the past year. PMIGLC has its own site and uses a course management
system which is used by many non-profit and for-profit organizations
and associations. Online learning has become the mainstream course
delivery method in many colleges and universities. In addition K-12
institutions have increased their online learning opportunities. For
example, the State of Michigan Legislature passed a law last year
requiring all students to take at least one online course before they
graduate from high school.
If you have any questions about online learning, please ask vp.pd@pmiglc.org.

A Message
from the PMI GLC Vice President of Communications
..
Communications
to our Members!
Our pmiglc.org website is a vital part of our communication to our
members and project management stakeholders. New technology will
reduce maintenance costs and provide additional features and services.
Our Web Services Director, Kulveer Virk, is currently leading the
project to develop our new website with Microsoft ASP.NET architecture.
We plan to move to the new website over the Memorial Day Weekend.
This will require some pmiglc.org downtime but we hope to keep it
to a minimum.
Our new website
will initially (Phase I) have the same look and feel but will have
easier navigation tools, such as drop down menus. New functionality
(Phase II) including searching by keywords and the ability to mail
a page or forward a link to a friend who may have interest in an
event. We will also have the ability to track visits by page which
will tell us what is of most interest and value to our members and
visitors to our site. We can then use this information to make improvements.
Phase I will be implemented Memorial Day Weekend and then Phase
II development will begin. We will provide implementation dates
of Phase II when available.
Communication from our Members!
We want to hear from you on what you like about your PMIGLC membership,
communications, events and suggestions for improvements. Send your
suggestions in an email to vp.communications@pmiglc.org
with the subject line: "PMIGLC Membership Benefits" and
you may win a $25 Rewards Certificate in a monthly drawing.
